Two ships collide at Ctg port outer anchorage

Update : 09 Sep 2017, 09:28 PM
A cargo ship has been damaged after colliding with another mother vessel on the outer anchorage of Chittagong port. The accident took place around 7am on Saturday in the narrow Karnaphuli channel, port officials said. The damaged vessel, identified as MV My Mary from Belize, was carrying 37,661 tons of TSP fertiliser. Of that, 4,000 tons were spoiled after water seeped in through the cracks in one of the ship’s hatches, said the vessel’s local agent Nurunnabi Imran. Private firm Nowapara Traders is the importer of the TSP fertiliser. The other cargo ship was MV Orhan from Malta. It was carrying urea fertiliser. Chittagong Port Authority Member (admin and planning) Md Zafar Alam said the damaged vessel did not sink after the collision. “The incident also did not hamper movement of ships in the channel,” he added.
