A teacher has been suspended and another was asked for his explanation over allegations of sexually harassing female students in Rajshahi.
The teachers are - Ajit Kumar Sarker, computer science teacher at Rajshahi Education Board Model School and College, and Abdul Awal, Islamic studies teacher at Khayerhat High School.
Ajit allegedly harassed a twelfth-grader indigenous female student at his residence when she went there seeking help on July 29.
The victim’s husband lodged a complaint about the incident to Rajshahi Education Board Chairman Professor Abul Kalam Azad and the college authorities.
The education board chairman formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the incident. Later, the committee found the teacher guilty during their primary investigation.
Regarding the incident, Ajit said: “The student came to my residence for talking about private tuitions. She was supposed to join a group of students on the following day. I do not know why she is spreading such allegation against me.”
Another teacher, Abdul Awal, allegedly harassed a grade tenth-grader female student in a classroom after school hours.
According to Monjur Rahman, headmaster of Khayerhat High School, the school authorities sent a notice to Abdul asking for his explanation regarding the matter. The school authorities will take further step against the teacher after receiving his response.
However, Abdul could not be reached over phone. Locals have declared a demonstration at the school premises for September 11 if he goes unpunished.
