Police have recovered the bodies of six Rohingyas who got drowned in the Naf River estuary while trying to flee the violence in Rakhine state of neighbouring Myanmar.
The bodies were recovered from Shah Porir Dwip, Sabrang and Noakhali Para area in Teknaf upazila Thursday morning.
Teknaf Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Main Uddin Khan said: “The dead bodies were washed ashore in the morning after their boat capsized in the river.”
The OC said: "On information from locals, we went to the spot and recovered the bodies.”
“A total of 71 bodies of the Rohingya Muslims have been recovered since the latest crackdown erupted in Myanmar’s Rakhine state,” OC Main Uddin told the Dhaka Tribune.
