Gopalganj college principal suspends 2 lecturers after being sued

Update : 23 Aug 2017, 02:46 PM
Two teachers of a Gopalganj college have been suspended after they accused the principal of misappropriating Tk68 lakh from the college fund. Principal Bimalendu Sarker of Kotalipara's Kazi Montu College ordered suspensions of Dwijendranath Biswas and Samar Kumar Adhikari on August 12, several days after the lecturers filed two cases against him. Guardians of the students said the rift between the teachers was disrupting the educational environment while the students alleged that they were being pushed by both groups to choose a side. Dwijendranath, a lecturer at the Economics department, filed his case at the Kotalipara Assistant Judge's Court on August 2 and Political Science lecturer Samar filed his on August 6. They accused Principal Bimalendu of embezzling Tk68 lakhs from the college fund through irregularities and corruption. They alleged that Bimalendu, who became principal last year, had threatened the teachers who raised voices against his corruption during his time as the acting principal and later as the institution's head. Samar said the principal suspended them unlawfully after being sued. Bimalendu defended his decision and claimed that the cases were false. "I suspended them (the lecturers) because they have breached their terms of service by filing the cases," he said.
