The Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has announced a budget of Tk2,327.67 crore for the 2017-18 fiscal year.
CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin announced the budget, the third after he assumed the office, at a function in the KB Abdus Sattar Auditorium of the Nagar Bhaban in the city on Sunday.
As per the proposed budget, Tk1,290 crore will come from development aid provided by the government, and Tk994.37 crore will come from the city corporation's own sources. In addition, Tk43.30 crore will be sourced by earnings from other sources.
The development expenditure for the port city has been fixed at Tk1,223.45 crore. The money will be spent in excavating a canal, finding a solution to the waterlogging problem, construction of a bridge and a culvert, repairing the rundown roads, construction of guide wall, and beautification of and waste management in the city.
Of the Tk994.37 crore that the city corporation aims to provide from its own sources, Tk807.64 crore will come from revenue collection: Tk181.12 crore as tax arrears, Tk500 crore as current taxes and Tk126.52 crore as other taxes.
Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said the proposed budget was pragmatic and implementable.
He also said he was optimistic about successfully implementing the budget.
With the CCC Chief Executive Officer Md Shamshuddoha in chair, the budget session was addressed by the panel mayors, councillors, CCC Secretary Md Abul Hossain, Chief Engineer Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed, and Chief Revenue Officer Dr Mustafijur Rahman, among others.
