Brahmanbaria school authorities summon djinn to find missing student
The authorities of Wisdom School and College in Brahmanbaria have turned to the supernatural in an attempt to find the whereabouts of a missing student. Mahidul Islam Akib, a 15-year-old tenth grader, went missing from the college dormitory on July 8. School authorities said they were trying to rescue Akib by summoning a djinn in addition to help from police. According to the missing student's mother, Shefali Begum, she learned of her son's disappearance on July 9 when she went to pay his tuition fees. Sources claimed school authorities had tried to cover up the incident, asking Shefali to look for her son in their relatives’ homes and urging her not to file a general diary (GD). However, without complying with the suggestion, the mother filed a GD with Brahmanbaria Sadar police station on July 14. Zakir Hossain, Akib's maternal uncle who looks after them both as his brother-in-law lives abroad, said his nephew is a tenth grader studying under the commerce discipline. Zakir added that he held the school authority responsible for the disappearance and demanded that his nephew be rescued as soon as possible. Wisdom School and College Principal Monayem Khan said Akib had a previous record of running away from the college hostel. He described Akib as “a restless boy.” “We are trying to find his whereabouts. Alongside filing a general diary with the police station, we have summoned a djinn and found out that the missing student is now in Dhaka, and will return within a day or two,” he said. Asked whether school authorities had advised Akib's mother against filing a GD, he denied the allegation. According to the Brahmanbaria Sadar Model police station officer-in-charge, two similar general diaries had been filed back-to-back, and efforts to rescue the missing student are underway.
