Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the BNP chief colluding with other top leaders of the party in the UK is drafting an outline on a supporting government to help hold the next general elections.
“But, the party [BNP] does not have the eligibility to make such an outline, which the people will reject,” Obaidul said, urging his party men not to panic about BNP’s activities in this regard.
The Awami League leader made the comments as a chief guest in a party programme held at Brahmanbaria city’s Poura Mancha Maidan on Thursday.
“Sensing its defeat in the upcoming parliamentary polls, BNP is trying to make the Election Commission questionable,” Obaidul, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, observed.
Chaired by Awami League’s Brahmanbaria district unit President RAM Ubaidul Moqtadir Chowdhury, the programme was addressed, among others, by Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Organising Secretary Enamul Haq Shamim.
Prior to the event, Obaidul laid the foundation stone of a proposed bridge (219-metre long and 14-metre wide) on the Titas River in the district’s Shahbazpur area, which will be built at an estimated cost of Tk59 crore.
