Ctg re-rolling mill mishap leaves 9 workers with burn injuries
As many as nine workers sustained burn injuries when molten metal fell on them at an automatic re-rolling mill in the Bhatiary area under Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on Sunday. The accident took place at Sheema Automatic Re-Rolling Mills Ltd around 6am. The injured were identified as Omar Faruque, Sanjay Das, Shafiqul Islam, Nizam Uddin, Mostafa, Raju, Sekander Ali, Nasir Uddin and Mohammad Hasan. All of the injured workers are between 25 to 36 years of age. Anwarul Absar, in-charge of the re-rolling unit of the factory, told the Dhaka Tribune that the mishap took place as metals mixed with mud were mistakenly poured into the scrap-melting furnace. “Near immediately, a splash of the molten iron fell on the workers, leaving nine of them injured,” added the factory in-charge. The injured workers were taken to Al Amin Hospital (Pvt) Ltd at AK Khan Gate in the city. Md Monir Ullah, supervisor of Al Amin Hospital, told the Dhaka Tribune that the workers had received burn injuries in the hands, legs, chest and back. “Of the injured, two with 20 percent burns and a worker with 10 percent burns are now undergoing treatment at the hospital. The rest of the workers sustained 5-7 percent burns,” said the hospital official. “We will refer the injured workers for better treatment if their condition worsens. Till now, the condition of the injured workers is stable,” he added.
