9 JMB men remanded in Chapainawabganj

A Chapainawabganj court has placed nine suspected members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on remand. Among nine accused- Hafizur Rahman Hafiz, Jewel, Jamal, Abu Bakkar, Azizul, Abdul Hakim and Babu were placed on 3-day police interrogation, and Nasim and Firoz on 2-day. Senior Judge Shahidul Islam of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court passed the order when police produced them before the court Sunday with 7-day plea to interrogate them.

Shibganj police station officer-in-charge Habibul Islam Habib said: “They all are accused in a case filed after Operation Eagle Hunt in Shibnagar under Shibganj upazila in April.” “Three of them- Hafiz, Jewel and Jamal were arrested on Saturday along with Gulshan attack planner New JMB commander of northern region Hatkata Mahfuz,” the OC added. Four militants including JMB leader Abu were killed in Operation Eagle Hunt on April 28. A case was filed with Shibganj police station after the drive. Meanwhile in Dhaka, Metropolitan Magistrate AHM Tuaha Sunday placed Abdus Sabur alias Hatkata Mahfuz on 7-day remand for police interrogation.
