Mostafizur Rahman Badal, chairman of Lakshmipur union council and head master of Longabazar Girls’ High School was sent to jail on Tuesday for the attempted rape of a 12-year-old school girl. According to police sources, Mostafizur Rahman Badal used to harass the girl when she went to the school. After the girl’s family members were informed about the matter, they took the girl to another school in the area and warned Badal not to disturb her. But Badol continued to stalk her when the girl returned home from her school. According to the court statement, on May 27, Badol entered the house of the girl and tried to violate her as the family members were not home. Hearing the girl’s screams, neighbours and locals rushed to the spot and rescued her. However, the Lakshmipur union chairman managed to flee scene on a motorcycle. Later, an aunt of the girl filed a case with Gaibandha police station. Public Prosecutor AKM Muhibul Haque said the court had sent him to jail after he surrendered in the afternoon.
