Three people, including two siblings, were killed by electrocution as a CNG-run autorickshaw plunged into a roadside canal in Patiya upazila, Chittagong early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Shahadat Hossain, his brother Abdul Mannan, and autorickshaw driver Mohammed Nur, all three from Pekua upazila in Cox's Bazar, said police sources.
The incident took place on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway near the Patiya College Bazar area, said ABM Mizanur Rahman, OC of Patiya highway police station.
“A CNG-run autorickshaw carrying the siblings plunged into a roadside canal in the middle of the night after Nur, the driver, lost control over the steering.
“As the autorickshaw fell into the canal, it came into contact with a live electric wire hanging from a pole, killing the trio,” the OC told the Dhaka Tribune.
Receiving information, police recovered the bodies from the canal, he added.
