The authorities have tightened security in and around Sholakia Eidgah of Kishoreganj ahead of Monday's Eid congregation.
The district administration, municipal authority, police administration and the venue's management committee are working jointly to make sure people overcome the panic of the militant attack, which took place near the Eid ground two years ago, so that Sholakia retains the glory of holding the largest Eid congregation in the country.
The 190th Eid congregation at the historical ground is scheduled to begin at 10am.
Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain Khan told Bangla Tribune that teams of police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and other law enforcement agencies had been working for over a month to ensure foolproof security at the Eid ground.
Besides the members of law enforcement agencies, five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will be deployed in the area. Detectives in plainclothes will also keep watch in and around the security blanket already set there.
Close-circuit cameras and watch towers have been set up at all the entrances to the Eid ground while each devotee will be frisked at least five to 10 times at those points, added the SP.
Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Md Azimuddin, who is also the president of the Eidgah management committee, said they had given utmost importance to the security aspect, apart from meeting the overall standards for arranging the Eid congregation.
The municipal authority has constructed some new roads and a bridge to ensure smooth traffic to the Eid ground.
Two special train trips have been designated for the devotees who are going to join the congregation from long distances.
Banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujaheedin Bangladesh (JMB) carried out explosions near Sholakia Eid ground on July 7 last. Four people, including a woman and two policemen, were killed in the attack at a checkpoint near the Sholakia Eid congregation. A suspected attacker was also killed.
