Three held with 408 firearms in Cox’s Bazar
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained three arms traders with a huge amount of arms and ammunition from Maheshkhali upazila in Cox’s Bazar. The detainees are Md Habibur Rahman, 32, Md Nasir Uddin, 30 and Shohidul Islam, 24. RAB 7 CPC 2 Company Commander Major Md Ruhul Amin said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive in the area and detained them around 4am on Wednesday.” He said: "A total of 408 firearms, including 13 shooter-guns, 12 shotgun shells and 22 pipe-guns were recovered from their possession. Meanwhile, the elite force also recovered Tk23,000 during the drive. Major Ruhul Amin said the detainees were involved with arms trading for a long time and later they also got involved in other crimes like robbery and extortion. The RAB official said: "The detainees have confessed that they were stocking weapons to terrorise the locals."
