Police on Monday arrested Golam Mostofa Rafique, a freedom fighter, president of Habiganj Press club and the editor of the daily Habiganj Samachar under ICT Act.
Police sources said a news had been published on June 8 in the daily Habiganj Samachar and several other news portal about 80 AL MPs including the district unit Awami League Secretary Abdul Majid Khan. The report said the MPs and Khan might not be nominated from the party for the next national polls.
Later, Afroz Mian, local Jubo League leader and the nephew of Khan filed a case against three persons including Rafique under the ICT Act.
Mozammel Haque, officer-in-charge of Baniachong police station, said the police arrested Rafique in the morning under the act.
He was produced before the court in the afternoon and the court sent him to jail, said SI Kamal Uddin.
Meanwhile, journalists in the district demanded immediate release of veteran Freedom Fighter Rafique.
