Police: One killed in Meherpur gunfight
A suspected criminal has been killed in an alleged gunfight between two groups of criminals in Meherpur’s Mujibnagar upazila. The deceased is Majibul Haque alias Mujee. Meherpur Assistant Superintendent of Police Ahsan Habib said: “Acting on a tip-off that two groups of criminals were exchanging fire, three police teams led by Mujibnagar police station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam rushed to the scene around 2am Monday. “Sensing the presence of the police, the miscreants fled the scene. Later, police recovered a bullet-hit body from the spot,” said the police official. Police also recovered one shooter gun, two cartridge shells, four fresh cartridge, three hand bombs and local weapons from the scene. He said Majibul was accused in a number of cases filed on several charges including murder and robbery. The body is kept at Meherpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy. “The family members of the deceased will identify his body and then the body will be handed over to them,” ASP Ahsan further said.
