A suspected drug dealer has been killed in an alleged gunfight with the police in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba upazila. Kasba police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Moinuddin said the skirmish took place Tuesday night. Fifteen others were also detained during a combing operation conducted following the “gunfight”. The deceased was identified as Ibrahim, 35. OC Moinuddin said a patrol team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiqul conducted an anti-drug drive in Lotuya Mora area around 11pm on Tuesday. “Sensing the presence of the police, a drug smuggling gang led by Ibrahim attacked SI Rafiqul,” he said. “In defense the police fired on the miscreants, resulting in a gunfight leaving Ibrahim spot dead. His associates managed to flee the scene afterwards,” OC Moinuddin added. SI Rafiqul received head injuries from the attack. After the incident a team of senior police officials headed by Superintendent of Police Md Iqbal Hossain reached the crime scene.
