Man kills sister-in-law, injures wife, son in Moulvibazar over family feud
A man hacked his sister-in-law to death and injured his wife and son over a family feud at Hazipur union in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar on Tuesday. Hazipur union parishad chairman Abdul Basit confirmed the incident to the Bangla Tribune. Md Salauddin, 32, the assailant, is a resident of Adampur union in the district’s Komolganj upazila. The deceased is Moni Begum, 16.  The injured – Salauddin’s wife Rayna Begum, 22, and six-month-old son Md Masum – were first rushed to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. “Salauddin had been torturing my sister Rayna ever since he married her. Unable to bear his torture, she left her in-laws’ house,” Rayna’s brother Majid Mia said. “Last week, Salauddin came to our home to bring her back, and today [Tuesday] he started pressing her to go with him,” he added. Enraged by her refusal, he swooped on her family and slashed at Moni with a sharp blade when they tried to deter him, Majid alleged. Later, locals caught Salauddin and handed him over to police when he was trying to kill himself by attempting to pour kerosene oil on himself following the incident. A case is being filed in this regard, said Kulaura police station Officer-in-Charge Md Samsudoha.
