Suspected robber killed in Khulna gunfight

A suspected robber has been killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Khulna city. According to police, most wanted criminal Munshi Raju, 28, who had been absconding since long, was accused in murder and rape cases. Five policemen, including Khulna Sadar police station Office-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman, were injured in the gunfight that took place early Saturday at Tutpara. OC Mizanur said that a police team raided Tutpara after being tipped off that Munshi had been planning a robbery with his cohorts. He claimed that the robbers fired shots at the police as soon as the latter had reached the spot, triggering a gunfight. “Munshi, injured in the skirmish, was left behind by his cohorts,” he added. He was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. OC Mizanur, Sub-Inspector Mihir, SI Sujit, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sarwar and ASI Kamal were injured in the gunfight, police claim. The received primary treatment at the KMCH. A pistol, bullets and sharp weapons were recovered from the scene, police say.
