Slain teenager’s father claims police trying to save Mushfique’s father
The father of slain teenager Mashuk Ferdous has alleged that police are trying to save the main accused in the case, Mahbub Hamid Tara, the father of national cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim. Mashuk’s father Emdadul Haq, an executive member of Jasad (Hasanul Haq Inu-led faction), also rejected the confessional statement made by neighbour Bidarul Islam Nayeem, 15, before a court Thursday. Nayeem was sent to Juvenile Correction Centre in Jessore Friday afternoon. Emdad on Friday claimed that his son had been killed in a planned way by Tara and his brother Mejbah-ul-Hamid, a local municipality councillor, due a conflict over the formation of the governing body of Matidali High School where Tara had secretly taken the charge as its chairman.

Nayeem Hossain called and took Mashuk out of his home in Bogra town’s Matidali area around 8:30pm on May 13. Afterwards, Mashuk was found lying near his home with grievous head injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead the same night. Emdad filed the case against 16 people including Tara, Mejbah and Nayeem on May 16. Sadar police Officer-in-Charge Aslam Ali, also investigation officer of the case, claimed that they had arrested Nayeem from a hotel in Shahjahanpur Wednesday. According to the police, Nayeem told them that he had killed Mashuk due to a previous enmity. But Emdad alleged that main accused Tara had helped the police arrest Nayeem several days ago. “Tara and the investigation officer taught him [Nayeem] what to say at the court.

“Police did not admit the arrest of Nayeem until Thursday afternoon. But Tara told a TV channel Wednesday night that Nayeem had been arrested and confessed to committing the crime.” Emdad has asked the police’s higher authorities to conduct a fair investigation into the matter. Additional Police Superintendent (media) of Bogra Sadar circle Sanatan Chakrabarty refuted the allegations raised by the plaintiff. “Mahbub Hamid Tara did not help us arrest Nayeem. We did not tell him about the arrest too. Someone may have seen him when we were conducting raids in different areas with him,” the officer added.
