Suspected robber killed in Meherpur gunfight
A suspected robber has been killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Meherpur’s Gangni Upazila. The deceased has been identified as Lalon, 30. Gangni police station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain said Sub-Inspector Baktier Hossain and Constable Abdul Huq were injured in the Skirmish on early Thursday. He said a police team was dispatched at Choktala field where a gang of robbers were preparing for a robbery. “The robbers opened fire on as as soon as we reached the spot, triggering a gunfight,” the OC said. “Lalon, who was injured in the skirmish, was left behind by his comrades who managed to flee.” Lalon was taken to the Gangni Hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. Police say they have recovered two bombs, firearms and bullet from the spot.
