Man sentenced to death for killing wife

A Lakshmipur court on Tuesday sentenced a man to death and fined Tk1,00,000 for killing his wife on November 17, 2012 over dowry. Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Saidur Rahman Gazi pronounced the verdict after recording the statement of 10 witnesses. The convict Monir Hossain, a resident of West Sheikhpur area in Ramganj upazila of the district, suffocated his wife Kulsum Akter to death at his residence on November 17, 2012 as she refused to pay Tk2,00,000 in dowry money, according to court sources. Kamal Hossain, father of Kulsum, lodged a murder case with Ramganj police station on the day his daughter was killed.
