More than 700 teachers of government primary schools put forward seven-point demands, which included the removal of existing disparities in the national pay scale, at a human chain in Rajshahi on Thursday.
The teachers demanded that the pay scale of headmasters and assistant teachers be adjusted to the 10th (Tk16,000) and 11th (Tk12,500) grade respectively, reports BSS.
In addition, the teachers called for vacant headmaster positions to be filled as soon as possible to ensure smoother operation of school activities.
The district committee of Bangladesh Primary Teachers Samity (BPTS) organised the human chain in front of the Primary Teachers Institute in the district. BPTS local unit leaders Ayub Ali, Abdul Khaleque Sarker, Shahidul Alam, Abdus Samad, Abdur Razzaque and Shahadat Siddiqui spoke on the occasion.
After the programme, they submitted a memorandum containing the demands to the prime minister through the deputy commissioner.
