Police have arrested the head teacher and clerk of a primary school in Shariatpur Sadar upazila on charge of sexually harassing female students.
The arrestees are headmaster SM Kawser and clerk Jahidul Islam.
A guardian had filed a case against the duo under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Tuesday night, Palang police station Officer-in-Charge Khalilur Rahman said.
They were produced before the Women and Children Repression Prevention Court on Wednesday. The court sent them to prison rejecting bail petitions.
The same court earlier in the day recorded statements of three students.
Kawser was also suspended Wednesday after the allegations were found to be true.
The arrests came after guardians of five students of the school submitted a written complaint to the upazila nirbahi officer bringing allegation of sexual harassment against the head teacher and the clerk.
In the complaint, they mentioned that the headmaster and the clerk used to touch the students’ intimate body areas during tiffin periods or after school in the name of giving study materials.
Upon getting the complaint, Assistant Upazila Education Officer Faruk Alam visited the school on Tuesday to investigate the matter.
He said: “I have talked to the students personally. Six more students complained against the headmaster.”
Necessary action would be taken after an investigation, he added.
