A Rajshahi court has ordered the exhumation of the remains of Maldivian model Rautha Athif for a fresh post-mortem examination.
Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahabur Rahman gave the order on Tuesday, after CID Inspector Asmaul Haque filed a petition seeking permission to exhume the corpse.
Court Inspector Abul Hashem said: “The court has ordered to exhume Raudha’s corpse from her grave in the presence of an executive magistrate.”
However, Raudha's father Dr Mohamed Athif told the Dhaka Tribune that he would refuse any request for a second autopsy on the grounds of the first autopsy being good enough.
CID Additional special Superintendent of Police Kazi Mohammad Shafi said that the police officials had questioned the prime suspect, Seerat Parvin Mohammad.
The agency has also investigated the crime scene and gone over the evidence presented by the Detective Branch and the regular police.
The CID started their investigation after taking charge of the two cases last Friday. One of the cases was filed for unnatural death while Raudha’s father lodged the murder case alleging that his daughter’s death was planned.
On April 10, Raudha’s father filed the murder case with a Rajshahi court and named Seerat as the prime suspect. Seerat was Raudha’s classmate at Rajshahi Islami Bank Medical College.
Seerat, an Indian student from Kashmir, was one of Raudha’s closest friends at the dorm. They lived in adjacent rooms. According to Seerat’s earlier testimony, she was the last person to see Raudha before she allegedly killed herself on March 29.
The international model from the Maldives, and a student at the medical college, was buried on April 1 after the autopsy report ruled her death a suicide.
