Road crashes take 11 lives in 5 districts
At least 11 people including three of a family were killed and more than 46 got critically injured in separate road accidents in five districts Sunday. In Sirajganj, five people were killed in a road accident at Shialkol Bazar in Sirajganj, our correspondent reported. The deceased are Urmi Khatun, wife of Sohel Rana; her daughter Soheli; and brother-in-law Kauser Ahmed. Identity of another woman could not be known. The accident took place when a bus hit a CNG-run auto rickshaw from behind on Sirajganj-Nalka Road, leaving two passengers of the auto rickshaw dead on the spot. The two others were declared dead after taken to Sirajganj General Hospital, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar police Rafiqul Islam said. Meanwhile, four people including a woman were killed and six others injured as a private car collided head-on with a microbus in Kundarpara area of Shibpur upazila, said our Narsingdi correspondent. The accident occurred around 8am on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. The woman died on the spot, OC of Shibpur police Md Syeduzzaman said. The injured were admitted to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital where three victims succumbed to their injuries. In Natore, two people were killed as a truck collided head-on with an ambulance in Kadamchilan area under Lalpur and plunged into a pond, our correspondent reported. The deceased are ambulance driver Farid Hossain, 50, and his helper Sujon Sheikh, 32. Our Kushtia correspondent reported that 25 people were critically injured when a student bus of Kushtia Islamic University collided head on with a public bus on Kushtia-Khulna Highway in Bitthipara area of the district. In Jhenaidah, 15 people were critically injured when a covered van collided head-on with a passenger bus on Jhenaidah-Magura Road Sunday morning, said our correspondent.
