One week has passed since the filing of a complaint on assaults and attempted rape of a Hindu woman in Phulbari upazila of Kurigram, but the police are yet to take any action against the accused.
The complainant, hailing from Nazar Mamud village, alleged that neighbour Hossain Ali, son of Hayfat Ali, had beaten her up with a bamboo stick near her house on April 9.
As her son Jibon came to her rescue, the assaulter also beat up the boy before leaving the scene.
According to the complaint, Hossain Ali assaulted her after failing to rape her in repeated attempts in the past. The last of such instances was on March 25 when the victim was home alone.
Khirod Chandra Barman, president of Phulbari upazila unit of Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikyo Parishad, condemned the incident and demanded legal steps against the accused immediately.
Acknowledging the filing of the complaint, Phulbari police Officer-in-Charge Khandaker Fuad Ruhani told the Dhaka Tribune Sunday that they would take steps after an investigation.
