Election to 165 union parishads will be held on Sunday, as scheduled earlier, where voting was suspended during the sixth phase polls held in 4,275 UPs last year.
Starting simultaneously from 8am, voters of the respective electoral areas across the country will exchange their franchise in the polls to be held in a partisan manner until 4pm.
The election is the first one at any level under the new Election Commission (EC) that assumed office in early February.
As per the schedule, the polls were supposed to be held in 185 UPs. But, orders from the High Court halted election to 20 UPs .
Chairman aspirants are contesting the polls under party banner, while candidates for the posts of members and reserved women members are vying without a party ticket.
When contacted, secretary to EC Secretariat Mohammad Abdullah said they have already taken necessary preparations for a free and fair UP election.
Replying to a query about law and order situation amid recent militant activities, he said:“There is no sych threat of militancy in the polls. Everything, including law and order situation, is under control.”
In case of any kind of electoral violence, the lawmen with the help of higher authorities will take instant action, he warned.
Additional law enforcers have been deployed to avert any untoward situation during the election, with a number of magistrates assigned just no this occasion, said the EC official.
