Rail communication between Dhaka and northern districts has resumed after an eight-hour halt following a derailment on the eastern side of Bangabandhu Multipurpose Bridge in Tangail.
"Two rescue trains from Dhaka and Mymensingh re-railed the engine and compartments of Lalmonirhat Express around 12.30pm on Thursday," said Abdul Mannan, assistant station master of Ibrahimabad Railway Station.
The rail communication on the route resumed around 1pm, he added.
Earlier, the engine and three compartments of the Lalmonirhat-bound train veered off the tracks in Pathailkandi area around 3am, halting train communication of Dhaka with the northern districts.
Several trains including Chitra Express, Sundarbans Express remained stranded in the nearby stations.
