A daylong workshop on “Age verification and online marriage registration through mobile phone” was held at the Rangpur and Dinajpur Rural Service conference room in Rangpur on March 28.
The Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Office organised the event with the support of Global Affairs Canada and Plan International Bangladesh. The objective was to expand across the division the learning that was gathered during the implementation of child marriage interventions in Rangpur and Nilphamari districts.
Md Abdul Mojid, additional divisional commissioner (Revenue), gave the welcome speech to kick off the workshop, which also included a presentation on Plan International Bangladesh and its experiences by Abdul Quddus, divisional manager of the Rangpur branch of Plan International Bangladesh. The event also provided a platform for adolescent mothers and girls to speak out on the effects and prevention of child marriage.
Deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers from Rangpur, Nilphamari and Kurigram districts shared their experiences with child marriage at the workshop. Chairman of the Rangpur union parishad, marriage brokers, imams, kazis, and marriage registrars, among others, also shared their thoughts about the interventions.
