Tangail school students demand death for rapist
Students of Nordoi Primary School in Kalihati of the district staged demonstrations Saturday demanding quick arrest of a man who raped a fourth grader of the same school. The rapist, Hashem Ali, of the same village has been absconding since the incident that took place Thursday afternoon. Kalihati police Officer-in-Charge Md Akheruzzaman said that they were trying to arrest the culprit. He is the son of Hachhen Mondol of Nordai village under Sholla Union. The girl went to an irrigation plant near her house after coming back from school. Hashem Ali, who was staying at the room, tied her hands and mouth, and raped her. He fled after some locals noticed the incident and took the victim’s mother and another woman to the spot. The girl was admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital with severe injuries. Meanwhile, Kalihati police could not arrest another youth, Rony Mia, who allegedly raped a grade X student of Mohela Rabeya Siraj High School on the school premises Thursday. The girl died while being taken to hospital. Rony, 26, had been harassing the girl since long, allege locals and some students. The victim was returning from the school after casting her vote in the school cabinet election Thursday afternoon when Rony intercepted her. He took her to an empty classroom, tortured and raped her. She was severely bleeding when the locals found her in the room, and succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital. On the other hand, Tangail Sadar police sources said that the woman, arrested on Wednesday after she had killed her drug addict son who attempted to rape her, was sent to jail through court. She would get the scope of self defence before the court when the police submit the charge sheet in the case. “We will submit the report as soon as we get the post-mortem report,” an official of the police station told the Dhaka Tribune seeking anonymity. The perpetrator, Hazrat Ali, 28, was known as a drug addict in the area and had two cases against him with Tangail Sadar police. He was released from jail a week ago.
