A crack has developed on the newly-built second Chitra Bridge in Narail town within four days of its inauguration.
The 140-metre-bridge over the Chitra River was built at a cost of Tk29 crore and opened on March 26, a month ahead of schedule.
Locals noticed the crack at the base of its western terminus on Thursday.

The town's communication with Lohagara and Kalia upazilas as well as neighbouring Gopalganj and Jessore districts and Dhaka city has been eased after the opening of the bridge. However, panic has gripped local residents after the crack came to light.
LGED’s Narail Executive Engineer Abu Sayed told the Dhaka Tribune that the crack was not serious.
“It is not a crack of the main concrete mould. It will not create nay problem,” he claimed.
The construction began on April 30, 2015 and was set to be complete by April 30 this year. But the bridge was inaugurated a month ahead of the schedule to mark Independence Day.
