A student of Markaz Al Jamiatul Nafizia al Islamia Madrasa in the Agailjhara upazila of Barisal has been missing since November 30, according to his family and police.
Neamatullah,16, left home for the madrasa on November 27 and went missing after Zohr prayers on November 30, said Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Agailjhara police station.
Neamatullah’s father, Khorshed Bepari, filed a general diary on December 3 after receiving text messages sent by his son, said the police official.
An SMS sent to his mother read: “Mom, I am alright. Don’t worry about me. I am on the path of Allah.”
Another SMS sent to his maternal uncle Shahadat Hossain at 1:22am on December 5 said: “Right now, I am on my duty; I will call you later.”
Shahadat told the Dhaka Tribune that they made several phone calls to the same number in vain.
When contacted, Neamatullah's mother Kohinur Begum said: “My son does not have a bad record. He studied at Baghda Madrasa in the district but was later transferred to Markaj Al Jamiatul Nafizia Al Islamia Madrasa two years ago since his results were not up to the mark for his previous institution.”
On Tuesday, Kohinur was called in by Rab-8 office for interrogation, said OC Monirul.
He added: “Police have started interrogating people over the matter since the general diary was lodged. They have been working to trace his location.”
“The law enforcing agencies have also been looking out for Neamatullah's visits to mosques.”
