Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has said that Chittagong Hill Tracts is now filled with population to the brim and has no capacity to inhabit more people from the plain land.

More pressure on this land would bring disaster, he added.

He also urged the administration to be cautious and strict on the issue while speaking as chief guest at a discussion marking the 18th founding anniversary of Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs held at International Mother Language Institute in the capital on Saturday morning.

The arable land had been harmed and reduced to a great extent due to Kaptai Lake, he added.

The minister also gave importance on maintaining forestry and sought alternative ways of cultivating crops in the CHT.

Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, state minister for CHT Affairs, and Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura (ndc), secretary to CHT Affairs Ministry, also spoke at the programme.
