Two from Chapainawabganj arrested while planning to carry out sabotage in Bogra

The Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested two active members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen (JMB) from Santahar of Adamdighi upazila in Bogra.

The members – Md Rubel and Abdul Bari from Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj – were arrested while holding a meeting planning to carry out sabotage in Bogra.

Police also recovered two 7.5 calibre pistols with 12 rounds of bullets and 4 magazines from the scene, Inspector of DB Nur-E-Alam stated.

According to the inspector, acting on a tip-off, members of DB police conducted a drive in Pauta school playground at around 10:45pm on Saturday.

At that time, a group of JMB members were meeting to discuss how to carry out sabotage in Bogra. Detecting a police presence, most of the members fled, but the police were able to arrest Rubel and Bari.

After extensive interrogation, the two admitted that they were members of the military faction of JMB, and they had come to the meeting to sell the weapons that were found on them.

A case has been lodged against them in Adamdighi police station. They were produced before the Senior Judicial Magistrate court in Bogra, on Sunday afternoon, for a seven-day remand.

As of the time of reporting, the court is yet to decide on the case.
