RAB arrests seven suspected members of Ansar al-Islam in Dhaka

The seven were arrested when the elite force conducted drives in the Mugda, Jatrabari and Badda areas of Dhaka

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven suspected members of militant outfit Ansar al-Islam (also known as Ansarullah Bangla Team) from different areas of Dhaka. 

The arrestees are Mohibur Rahman alias Rakib alias Abu Umama alias Babu, 24, Ershadul Haque Titu, 24, Kamal Uddin, 37, Sifat, 30, Didarul Islam, 26, Md. Reftullah Sabbi Khan, 19 and Shitol Miah, 27.

Confirming the matter, RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said the seven were arrested when the elite force conducted drives in the Mugda, Jatrabari and Badda areas of Dhaka on Thursday after receiving tip-offs.

He added that a large quantity of bomb-making equipment and Jihadi books were confiscated from the arrestees. 

He also said that Mohibur, a teacher of Bloomfield International School and College in Bardhara, is one of the key coordinators and planners of Ansar al-Islam.

Furthermore, Ershadul Haque is a recruiter of the militant group, who shared its statements and videos promoting Jihad on social media, the RAB director added.

Meanwhile, Kamal Uddin and Sifat were bomb makers for Ansar al-Islam, whereas Didar and Sabbir were active members and regional coordinators of the militant group in different parts of the capital.
