Manik was sued by an RU teacher for accusing him of corruption during student admissions
Former president of Rajshahi University (RU) Press Club and RU correspondent of Daily Jugantor, Manik Raihan Bappi was released from jail on Monday.
Salman Shakil, the current president of RU Press Club, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
On Thursday, Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain granted interim bail to journalist Bappi after Adv Sheikh Ali Ahmed Khokon appealed the court for Manik’s bail.
Earlier on November 14, Manik was arrested in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act by Kazi Zahidur Rahman, a teacher of computer science and engineering at RU in 2015.
The case, which accused 15 other journalists, followed several articles published against Kazi Zahidur Rahman, accusing him of illicit activities at the university, including corruption, during student admissions.
