Law Minister Anisul Huq on Wednesday said his ministry would provide necessary help to concerned authorities for quick disposal of cases filed by the owners of illegal buildings.

“I have talked to housing and public works minister, and told him that whenever they need help from my prosecution team, the attorney general’s office to quickly dispose of such cases, we will support them fully,” he said at the secretariat in Dhaka, reports BSS.

The minister made the remarks while responding to a question on things to do, to take action against owners of illegal buildings regardless of the cases filed by them to save their establishments.

Replying to another question on resolving the issue of the backlog of cases, he blamed the people’s mindset about alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

“If the court asked (justice seekers) to opt the ADR of their compoundable cases... People can get courage, they can trust the ADR.

“You will see in a few days that courts are giving such directives and following these, cases are not coming to courts anymore as they are being resolved outside,” Anisul said.

He further said there was scope to reduce steps in the civil procedure under the “current reality” to reduce the time to dispose civil cases, adding: “We are working on that.”
