National Justice Coordination Committee launched
United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs jointly launched the National Justice Coordination Committee (NJCC) on Tuesday with the objective to improve justice service delivery in Bangladesh. The committee will provide oversight and act as an advisory body for the whole justice sector as well as lead the sector’s strategic reform process. Chief guest of the event Law Minister Anisul Huq emphasized the need for reform in the justice sector, and added that the government considers the establishment of the NJCC to be crucial for the improved analysis of problems in the justice system and cost-effective use of resources. The other guests at the launching ceremony at Dhaka’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) included Joint Secretary (Opinion) Umme Kulsum and Joint Secretary (Admin) Bikash Kumar Saha of the Justice division under the Law Ministry, Dr Md Zakir Hossain, registrar general (in-charge) of Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Sudipto Mukherjee, UNDP country director, Syed Iftekharuddin, inspector general of Bangladesh Prison, Md Mokhlesur Rahman, additional inspector general of Bangladesh Police, ASSM Zahirul Haque, secretary of Law and Justice Division.
