Bangladesh police has requested people to refrain from posting photos and remarks that are religiously offensive and ignore any such rumours.
In a press release issued on Thursday, police urged people not to pay attention to rumours that incite violence and spread hatred.
According to the police, the communal violence is a product of plans devised by nefarious groups who take advantage of such situations.
It was emphasised that posting offensive or provocative photos or statements on the Internet is a punishable according to the law.
Police have urged caution and asked people to remain calm to sustain communal harmony.
The release comes in the wake of violent attacks on the Hindu community in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria.
