The new fare was fixed at a meeting between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Haab on Sunday

The Ministry of Religious Affairs has increased the prices of air tickets for this year's Hajj pilgrims by Tk12,000.

The decision came at a meeting between the ministry and the members of Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (Haab) in Dhaka on Sunday.

As per the ministry, the Hajj airfare has been raised to Tk140,000 from the previous year’s Tk128,000.

The ticket prices have been increased considering the current situation and after consulting all stakeholders, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Md Mohibul Haque said.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali, State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, and Haab President Shahadat Hossain Taslim were present at the meeting.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Haab President Shahadat Hossain Taslim said: “The cost of Hajj packages, including airfare, have been increased over the last few years. This has put much pressure on Hajj pilgrims.

"Many are now not able to perform Hajj due to the high costs. Now the government has raised the prices of air tickets further, making Hajj packages even costlier."

The meeting also decided that a list of approximated costs would be published within a day or two.

Like previous years, three different Hajj packages will be announced within this week.
