Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has assured that highest security measures, including countrywide surveillance, have been implemented for a safe and secure Pohela Boishakh celebration.
The minister made the assurance to reporters after inspecting security measures at Ramna Botmul area of Dhaka on Saturday.
Pointing out that people from all walks of life will celebrate the Bangla New Year on Sunday, Kamal said: “The police capability has increased exponentially, and they are ready to tackle any challenge.
“All law enforcement agencies are on high alert across the country.”
The minister also assured that all major celebratory venues are now under CCTV surveillance, and security will be even stricter around the Mongol Shobhajatra procession.
“Because of the diligence of law enforcement and intelligence agencies, we are not expecting any incidents of terrorism,” he added.
Monitoring social media
He added that a cyber security unit is monitoring popular social media platforms to combat the spread of baseless rumours.
Responding to query, the minister said: “A certain quarter has a habit of spreading false rumours on social media. Our cyber security unit is monitoring the platforms.
“We will leave no stones unturned to ensure a peaceful, safe, and secure celebration of Pohela Boishakh.”
