The two were named as accused in two separate cases lodged with Sonagazi Police Station, for sexually assaulting Nusrat and setting her ablaze
The Directorate of Madrasa Education (DME) has decided to suspend the monthly pay order (MPO) of two teachers of Feni’s Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa, who are accused in the case over the murder of Alim examinee Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The DME on Thursday sent letters to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), requesting that the MPOs of the madrasa’s Principal Md Sirajaddaula and English department teacher Absar Uddin be cancelled, DME Director General Shafiuddin Ahmed told Bangla Tribune on Friday.
The two were named as accused in two separate cases lodged with Sonagazi Police Station, for sexually assaulting Nusrat and setting her ablaze, he said.
Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Madrasa in Feni, died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) burn unit on Wednesday night. She had sustained severe burn injuries on April 6, after she was set ablaze reportedly by supporters of the madrasa principal.
On April 8, the victim's brother filed a case with the Sonagazi police station accusing several people, including four burqa-clad individuals, of setting Nusrat on fire on the madrasa's rooftop.
Until now, police have arrested 10 people in connection with the murder, including main accused Md Sirajuddaula and his student Nuruddin.
Earlier on March 27, the victim's family had lodged a sexual harassment case with the same police station against the madrasa principal, accusing him of attempting to rape Nusrat in his office.
