He says ‘we do not want further loss of life’

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said the government will lend its support to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) to relocate warehouses from different residential areas in the city.

The minister on Thursday said: “The DSCC is working to relocate chemical warehouses out of residential areas. The government will work with the DSCC to rebuild Old Dhaka as a planned city. We do not want any further loss of life.

Kamal made the remarks talking to journalists after visiting the spot of the deadly fire which broke out in the city’s Chawkbazar area on Wednesday night that has claimed 68 lives so far.

“The government will extend all sorts of support to overcome losses from the devastating fire,” he added.

Replying to a query, the home minister said the government had issued an order for relocating chemical warehouses and factories from the Chawkbazar area after the deadly 2010 blaze in Nimtoli.  But a section of traders restarted their business at the same place, he added.
