Minister pays surprise visit to land acquisition office in Chittagong
Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury has said that he will not tolerate anomaly and harassment in the land offices.
The minister sounded the strong warning to the land officials while paying a surprise visit to the Chittagong district land acquisition office on Sunday noon.
The minister also listened to the grievances of the service receivers at that time and verbally warned two staff of the land acquisition office.
He said that errant officials would face stern punitive actions including dismissal.
"I have already received some complaints that people have to give 12-15% commission on land acquisition cheques. This is a serious allegation. We are considering introducing Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) system to check the anomalies in land acquisition," said the minister, adding that people were lodging complaints against the lower-tier staff of the land offices.
Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Elius Hossain accompanied the minister during the surprise visit.
Earlier on January 12, the land minister asked the officials of all land offices to submit their wealth statements by February 28.
