Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury, lawmaker from the Chittagong 12 constituency, was made a whip of the 11th parliament by President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday.
The parliament secretariat issued a gazette notification in this regard just before the maiden session of 11th parliament was set to take place.
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline in a legislature. This usually means ensuring members of the party vote according to the party platform or other accepted policy views shared by the party.

He has been elected a lawmaker from Chittagong 12 three times. He also served as members of Primary and Mass Education, Planning and Shipping Ministries.
He also served as the ward councilor of the Chittagong City Corporation in 1987.
Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury was born on July 20, 1957 in the Patiya upazila of Chittagong. He got into student politics while studying in the Chittagong Commerce College.
He has been serving as the Secretary General of the Chittagong Abahani since 1998, is a member of the Bangladesh Football Federation, Chittagong Krira Sangstha.
He is also the Bangladesh chapter president of the Asian Football Association UK and first Vice-President of the Chittagong Football Association.
