Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury issued the directive on Saturday
Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury has asked officials of all land offices to submit their wealth statements by February 28.
The minister issued the directive during a view-exchange meeting with journalists at the Chittagong Press Club on Saturday.
"I will shortly pay surprise visits to different land offices in the country," he said. "Cases are filed after serving notices of land acquisition. Some lower tier employees have been found to be involved with the malpractice. Therefore, a system has been devised where there will be no cases after serving notices of land acquisition."
The minister said all land offices under upazila and union level will be brought under CCTV surveillance.
"The Land Ministry is already beset with many problems," he said. "Now, we will adopt a zero tolerance policy against corruption."
The minister said all the necessary steps will be taken to ensure to expedite the ministry.
"There was a time when the Land Ministry was a dumping station," he said. "We will improve the situation within the next five years. Revolutionary changes will take place in the ministry if we can ensure good governance."
The minister cited the mega projects in Chittagong like Bay Terminal, Karnaphuli Tunnel, Chittagong-Cox's Bazar rail link and economic zones as steps the Land Ministry has taken for its advancement.
"All illegal structures on the sides of Karnaphuli River will be evicted soon and no encroachers will be spared," he added.
