The PMO issued a notice in this regard on Monday

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has formed an 18-member committee to monitor the implementation of traffic rules and ensure road safety across the country.

A notice was issued by the PMO in this regard on Monday, reported UNB.

The PMO secretary and director general (administration) were made president and member secretary, respectively, of the committee.

The committee has been tasked with monitoring the implementation of traffic law on the highways as per the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as well as the implementation of different projects under different organizations working on traffic management and road safety.

The committee will also inspect the short-term and long-term work plans of different organizations and their execution.

It will also coordinate the activities of different voluntary organizations like Scouts, Girls Guide, Red Crescent Society, etc and monitor and decide other issues regarding traffic management and road safety.

The move came after the widespread student protests that jolted the country following an accident involving two buses in race that killed two college students in Dhaka city's Kurmitola area on July 29.
