New Khulna mayor Khaleque sworn in

The newly-elected general and reserved seat councillors of Khulna City Corporation have also taken oath

The newly-elected mayor of Khulna City Corporation, Talukder Abdul Khaleque, has taken his oath of office.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath at a ceremony held at the Shapla Hall, in her office in Dhaka, on Thursday.

LGRD Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, and State minister for the Rural Development and Co-operatives Division Md Mashiur Rahman Ranga were present at the event.

Local Government Division Senior Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

Later, the 31 newly-elected councillors of general wards, and 10 female councillors of reserved wards, of Khulna City Corporation, were also sworn in at the same venue.

LGRD Minister Khandker Mosharraf administered the oath unto the councillors.

Awami League mayoral candidate Talukder Abdul Khaleque was elected in the Khulna City Corporation election held on May 15.

Khaleque won the election with a large margin, defeating his nearest rival and BNP candidate Nazrul Islam Monju.
