India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has rescued a 27-year-old Bangladeshi woman from West Bengal and arranged her repatriation.

Acting on a tip off, a team of specially trained Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the BSF rescued the woman from Ramnagar Border Outpost in Nadia district of West Bengal on Sunday.

The woman, Shilpi Begum, was handed over to the E Company of 58 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion at Koshalpur Border Outpost as a gesture of goodwill.

Shilpi, who identified herself to be a worker at Sirajganj Fashion Garment Shop in Dhaka, and her husband Koshar crossed the border with the help of a Bangladeshi middleman named Kabir at about 4:30pm on Sunday.

Koshar, who lives in Bangladesh, is the elder brother of the woman’s husband.

After crossing the border, three of them hid in a banana orchard before Shilpi was apprehended by the BSF troops.

At the time of the arrest, Koshar and Kabir fled to Bangladesh.

Immediately after the rescue, the BSF troops and the Anti-Human Trafficking Team sealed off the International Boundary to carry out a search operation along the border.

Shilpi Begum is originally from Nanadpara under Bakerganj police station in Barisal.

While being probed by the BSF officials, Shipi Begum revealed that she had got married to a man named Jasim 10 years ago. Following separation, she remarried Koshar.

While working in Dhaka, Shilpi Begum met a woman, who is presently running a human trafficking racket from Bangalore with her husband, five years ago.

The couple also trespassed to India illegally and provoked Shilpi to come to Bengaluru.

The woman made necessary arrangements for Kabir and Shilpi, and paid Koshar to help them cross the border, Shilpi said.

Shilpi also admitted to the BSF that the woman brings girls to Bengluru from Bangladesh with the help of Koshar and then forces them into prostitution.

Speaking to media, spokesperson of BSF South Bengal said: "We are taking strict steps to curb human trafficking along the India-Bangladesh border. Every attempt of human trafficking will be foiled."

A senior official from the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF said he would be writing to the police in Bengaluru to trace the traffickers.
