India on Thursday appreciated the prompt action and other security measures taken by Bangladesh to control the situation erupted following some disturbing reports involving attacks on religious gatherings.
"We have seen some disturbing reports, untoward incidents involving attacks on religious gatherings in Bangladesh," India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told newsmen at the weekly media briefing.
Responding to a question, he said: "We noted that government of Bangladesh has reacted promptly to ensure control of the situation including the deployment of law enforcing machineries.
He said that India also understands that the ongoing festive celebrations of Durga Puja continue in Bangladesh with the support of the Bangladesh agencies and of course large majority of public.
The MEA spokesperson said that the Indian High Commission and its consulates in Bangladesh are obviously in close contact with the authority in Dhaka and at local levels.
